Two Truths and A Lie to Say 'Hello'
Trying to be clever about how I introduce myself - it isn't going well
Truth #1
When
posted a note with a ‘truth and lies’ challenge, I lit up—I love those things!Such a great opportunity to show off, drop some names.
Just for fun, of course. Not vain ego-tripping or anything—perish the thought. Let’s see…
I turned down the job of personal chef to Miz Diana Ross because it would be too boring.
I was part of a binge-drinking session with a Silicone Valley billionaire on his luxury yacht and it cost north of $60,000 in fine wines.
I shook hands with Donald Trump and he was surprisingly nice. (LIE—he was awful.)
I met Kurt Vonnegut and he was surprisingly awful. (LIE—he was a humble delight.)
Then I looked closer. Kristina’s challenge is to tell three lies and a truth and that’s something totally different. That’s like presenting your dreams and having people guess which one already came true.
It’s not about showing off—looking back at where you’ve been. It’s about looking forward at where you hope to go.
Truth #2
It’s my first week on Substack, I’m new around here and I need to introduce myself every chance I get.
But all that ‘lifestyles of the rich and famous’ nonsense isn’t what I’m about anymore. Since my days of working as a Yachtie, I’ve had a couple of careers and a whole lot of personal life that’s been much more interesting.
But who I am now, who I am here on Substack, that’s complicated. And I’m an introvert who just showed up to a massive party in full swing!
The Lie
Here’s my three lies and a truth for Kristina’s challenge:
I’m great at self-promotion.
I love talking about myself.
I love writing about my life.
I hate being promoted by other people.
You’re welcome to guess, but I think which answer is True changes depending on the day.
